Cream Cheese and Shrimp Wonton Appetizers

These delectable Cream Cheese and Shrimp Wonton appetizers are the perfect appetizer for your next gathering. The wontons are crispy on the edges and creamy in the middle. The Asian flavors using the sesame oil, mirin, rice wine vinegar and sesame seeds are incredible.

Ingredients
  

For the cream cheese & shrimp filling:

  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 8 ounces of cooked shrimp chopped
  • 8 ounce block of cream cheese softened
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp mirin or rice wine
  • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp fresh minced ginger
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tbsp minced green onions

For the dipping sauce:

  • 1 tbsp mirin or rice wine
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cold water
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chives

For sprinkling on top:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chives

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees f.
  • Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature for abourt 20-30 minutes.
  • Chop the shrimp.
  • Mince the garlic and ginger and chop the green onions.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine cream cheese with the chopped cooked shrimp, sesame oil, mirin (rice wine), rice wine vinegar, fresh minced ginger and garlic and chopped green onions.
  • The best way to bake to bake these cream cheese shrimp wontons is to use a mini muffin baking pan. This allows the appetizer to stay fully formed as it's baking.
  • Spray muffin tins with cooking spray.
  • Place wonton wrappers in each muffin tin.
  • Place one teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper.
  • Brush the edges of the wrapper with cold water.
  • Light close and fold wonton at the tips of the wrapper and twist a little to keep closed.
  • Once closed, brush the edges of the wonton wrapper with cold water.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  • While they are baking, combine the mirin, low sodium soy sauce and 1 tbsp of cold water to make the dipping sauce.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds and a little bit of chives into the dipping sauce.
  • Once the cream cheese wontons are baked, place wontons on a serving platter and sprinkle them with chives.
  • Serve the crispy wonton cups with the dipping sauce in the middle of the platter.
