Equipment

Ingredients

  • 12 ounce package of pretzel rods approximately 30 pretzel rods
  • 16 ounces Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and/or white chocolate chips I used 1 cup dark, 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup white chocolate chips to make a variety
  • Coconut oil 1/4 teaspoon for every 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • Different sprinkles and your favorite toppings based on preference and time of year any colorful sprinkles in the baking aisle of the grocery store

Instructions

  • If you are using several different kinds of chocolate, place each in a microwave-safe bowl. Shallow glass or ceramic bowls are best. Semi-sweet chocolate chips in one bowl, white candy melts in another and dark chocolate chips in another.
  • My recommendation is to melt only one type of chocolate and prepare the chocolate dipped pretzels with that type of chocolate and toppings before melting the other types of chocolates. You don't want the other bowls of chocolate to harden while you are working.
  • Place 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil (per 1 cup of chocolate chips) in each bowl. This will thin the chocolate mixture a bit and make it easier to spread on the pretzel rods.
  • Melt chocolate one bowl at a time in 30-second intervals, stirring each time with a rubber spatula. Microwave twice at 30-second increments, stirring after each time. After, microwave in 15 second increments until the chocolate is melted. It's important to do this process slowly so the chocolate doesn't burn.
  • You can also use the double boiler method but the easiest way to melt the chocolate in the microwave.
  • While the chocolate melts, prepare your sheet pan by placing parchment paper on each pan.
  • Dip the pretzel sticks into the melted chocolate and spread the chocolate down the pretzel with a spoon or rubber spatula. Push the excess chocolate back into the bowl with the spatula. You really only need a thin chocolate layer. Let the excess drip off the end of the pretzel.
  • Place each chocolate dipped pretzel rod on your prepared baking sheet and top with your choice of sprinkles. Let sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens and the candy coating or sprinkles set.
